Warner Bros. changes release dates for Black Adam, Aquaman 2 and many more

Comic News

The Batman may have been a big hit for Warner Bros. – with a debut of more than $134 million domestically – but if you were already planning how much to butter your popcorn as you view the next DC movie in tehaters, you’re going to have to wait a while. Virtually the entire slate has been pushed back, along with Wonka. Aquaman 2 and The Flash are being pushed to next year, while Wonka is getting pushed all the way to Christmas 2023. Even the animated Super Pets have a new release date.

SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS, which finished filming last August, is the lone film to be moved up from 2023 to 2022, shifting from Summer ’23 to Christmas ’22.

The new lineup:

DC LEAGUE OF SUPER PETS – from May 20, 2022 to July 29, 2022
BLACK ADAM – from July 29, 2022 to October 21, 2022
THE FLASH – from November 4, 2022 to June 23, 2023
AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM – from December 116, 2022 to March 17, 2023
WONKA – from March 17, 2023 to December 15, 2023
SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS – from June 2, 2023 to December 16, 2022

“We’re thrilled to bring ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ to audiences as a Christmas gift this year,” said Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution. “Families of all ages will really enjoy it.”

The shifts for The Flash and Aquaman 2 are reportedly due to the need for more time to finish the special effects, doe to COVID delays, as IG’d by Aquaman director James Wan.

The Rock announced his own delays – he stars in both Super Pets and Black Adam – with characteristic optimism on Twitter.

Maybe you should butter that popcorn after all while you watch all this BTS intrigue unfold.
