Comics Crowdfunding Round-Up: THE CATCH, RUFUS MARIGOLD, and 3 more campaigns we love

Comic News

Welcome to The Beat’s Crowdfunding Round-Up: a collection of some of our favorite comics crowdfunding campaigns from the week including one-shots, ongoings, anthologies and everything in-between. Your regular Round-Up ringleader, Josh Hilgenberg, is on vacation, so instead you’ve got me, Joltin’ Joe Grunenwald, filling in for him with a look at the projects that caught my eye this week.

Let’s get started!

The Catch: Trade Paperback Edition

Creators: Steve Bryant (writer/letterer/variant cover artist), Ismael Canales (artist), Mireia Girbau (colorist), Roger Surroca (colorist), Jason Millet (variant cover colorist), and Chris Murrin (editor)
Goal: $10,000
End Date: August 5th, 2021
Goodies: The digital collection of The Catch will run you $10, while a print edition costs $25. Higher-tier rewards include bundles of the first three issues of the series (starting at $30), a “creators edition” featuring the full script and black-&-white art ($50), original art, and much more.

Elmore Leonard meets Gotham Central! By STEVE BRYANT (Athena Voltaire) & ISMAEL CANALES (Major Holmes & Captain Watson)

This 128-page trade paperback collects the first three issues of The Catch, which follows Lucy Chase, a bail enforcement agent who, in a world of superpowered individuals, tracks down and re-captures small-time costumed criminals who skip out on bail.

Rufus Marigold

Creators: Ross Murray (cartoonist), Honest Publishing
Goal: £6,000 ($8,268)
End Date: July 15th, 2021
Goodies: £5 (~$7) gets you the digital Rufus Marigold collection, while £13 (~17) plus shipping brings home the print edition. Additional tiers include bookmarks, prints, and even a zoom chat with creator Ross Murray.

A heartfelt, relatable, and darkly hilarious tale of a nervous primate tackling life with social anxiety.

I know Josh already covered this one a couple of weeks ago, but it looks too good to not shout out again as it nears the end of its campaign having not yet reached its goal. A 200-page collection of the serialized webcomic of the same name that launched in 2016, Rufus Marigold follows an anthropomorphic ape who suffers from severe anxiety. Rufus works an office job, suffers through small talk, and tries to make time for art of his own, all while navigating his own insecurities and self-doubt.

End Date: August 5th, 2021
Goodies: Digital ($5) and print ($10) editions of Curses #3, bundles of issues #1-3 ($12 for digital, $20 for print), and higher tiers that include original art ($100), commissions ($200), and even a cameo in the series ($500).

A curse has befallen the small town of Hesby and mummies are attacking seemingly at random.

If you, like me, believe that mummies are due for a big, zombie-esque resurgence any day now, this book sounds like the one for you. The horror-comedy series follows Megan and Rosa, a pair of women in their twenties, who take it upon themselves to get to the bottom of what’s causing the “mummy apocalypse” so they can stop it once and for all.

An exciting new issue of The Amoral Stingray!

New Moreno is in chaos, and Andre is stuck in the middle of it. He has made more enemies than ever and it’s time to step his skills up!

The Extraordinary Mosiah follows young Andre, a burgeoning superhero learning to use his abilities and finding a place for himself after being shunned by the larger powered community for the color of his skin. This campaign includes both the second issue of the Mosiah series and a one-shot starring another hero, Dessaline, who also appears in the series.
