INTERVIEW: The creators behind SWEET TOOTH on pandemic showrunning

In March 2020, when the world was plunged into lockdown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the first season of Sweet Tooth was still in the writing room!

Although work on the pilot episode had already been completed in 2019, the rest of the season was filmed in New Zealand in 2020. Naturally, this came with its own unique set of circumstances and challenges.

The Beat had to find out more about what this situation entailed from Sweet Tooth showrunners and Executive Producers Jim Mickle & Beth Schwartz. We asked all about what went into creating a show about a pandemic during a pandemic.

Plus, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to find out which one of Jeff Lemire’s other comic stories the legendary creator thinks would be the best for a hypothetical mash-up with Sweet Tooth!
