First Look: Stargirl Soldiers Through Her Spring Break

Comic News

Do you remember high school? For many of us it was quite a while ago, perhaps even earlier than December 2015. That was the last time Courtney Whitmore—Stargirl—had a prominent role in a DC comic book. (It was Justice League United #16, if you’re keeping track.) Last year, Stargirl stole hearts and won over a new generation of fans in a highly acclaimed Brec Bassinger-starring TV series that happens to be executive produced by Geoff Johns—the very man who created the character in 1999. Now, Courtney and Johns make an irresistible return to comics with a new one-shot that you’re not going to want to miss, whether you’re a longtime Stargirl fan or someone visiting Blue Valley for the very first time.

Stargirl Spring Break Special #1 is exactly what it says on the cover—it drops in on Courtney as she embarks on the most thrilling spring break adventure of her life! When her stepfather, Pat Dugan, gets a call from the Vigilante asking for help, he powers up his remarkable S.T.R.I.P.E. suit and heads off with Courtney for a super-powered—and super awkward—reunion with his old team, the Seven Soldiers of Victory. The next thing you know, Stargirl and her new (old) allies are on the hunt for the mysterious Eighth Soldier. But who is it? And what does it have to do with Courtney’s future as Blue Valley’s favorite superhero?

Any time Johns writes Stargirl, you know you’re in for something special, made all the more breathtaking here by Todd Nauck’s delightful art. With Courtney MIA from the DC Universe for so long, it goes without saying that Stargirl Spring Break Special is long-awaited. So, to help tide you over for just a bit more, we’re giving you a sneak peek of the book’s opening scene. Enjoy!
