Marvel reveals the MCU Phase 4 schedule and drops some Eternals footage

Comic News

“I love being with people. It’s the most incredible thing in the world.”

With these words, Stan Lee speaks for all of us in a pandemic ravaged world, and kicks off a 3 minute trailer called “Marvel Studios Celebrates The Movies” that is both a look back at the MCU Phases 1-3s most emotional moments, and a preview of Phase 4 with footage from Eternals (finally), new titles for other films, and a release schedule – as well as a new slogan: “The world may change and evolve, but the one thing that will never change: we’re all part of one big family.”

It’s also a tribute to going to the movie theater itself – with footage of the “On your left” moment in Avengers: Endgame as it happened in the theater. Being with other people, sharing dramatic movie moments. It’s the most incredible thing in the world.

Among the news dropped in the trailer:

Confirming rumors, Black Panther 2 will be subtitled Wakanda Forever, as the franchise deals with the tragic death of star Chadwick Boseman.

Captain Marvel 2 is now The Marvels, meaning that Ms. Marvel will almost certainly make an appearance. Ms. Marvel’s symbol is right in the logo so bank on it.  We just got the first shots of Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel from the upcoming TV show, and she looks fab.

The complete new schedule:

Black Widow  – July 9, 2021:

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – July 9, 2021

Eternals – November 5, 2021

Spider-Man: No Way Home – December 17, 2021

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – March 25, 2022

Thor: Love and Thunder – May 6, 2022

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – July 8, 2022

The Marvels (Captain Marvel 2) – November 11, 2022

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania – February 17, 2023

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 – May 5, 2023

Is ten movies in three years too much? Nay, true believer, it is not enough because Marvel also reminded us of the Disney+ slate which is ongoing with things like Loki, the Oscar Isaac-led Moon Knight, Hawkeye and more more more.

It’s not a franchise. It’s a lifestyle.

The trailer also released the first footage from Eternals, the next film from Oscar winning director Choe Zhao. And maybe to play on that a little, it had a distinct “Sersi-Land” vibe. But I have no doubt we’ll see Kirby-esque visuals elsewhere in the film. We briefly see Gemma Chan as Sersi, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Ma Dong-seok as Gilgamesh and Lia McHugh as Sprite. The film also stars Kit Harington as Dane Whitman (The Black Knight), Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos and Lauren Ridloff as Makkari.

All 10 seconds of footage have been extracted for  your reviewing pleasure here:

The Fantastic Four logo was shown after GotGV3 indicating that reboot is coming in 2024 or beyond. Let the FOURTH fantasy casting begin!

By the way, the narration by Stan Lee is from this message from 2017, a year before he passed away. Appropriate for all occasions as ever, Stan.

Is 10 movies too much? Are you excited for MCU Phase 4? What are you looking forward to the most? Let us know in the comments!
