There may be a plentiful amount of different golf games on the market, but unless you are happy to run the casual route provided by the likes of Golf With Your Friends or Golf Zero, your only real option for a simulation affair has been in what 2K and HB Studios have released, culminating in the launch of the utterly brilliant PGA Tour 2K21. Or at least it is for now, because very soon the might of EA will be muscling in on the action with a new next-gen golf game – EA SPORTS PGA TOUR.
Announced today by EA, EA SPORTS PGA TOUR will let fans of the game build their own virtual career, as they get to experience the sights and sounds of the PGA Tour – and yes, that does mean The Players Championship, the FedEXCup Playoffs and more will be present. In fact, you could well say that EA SPORTS PGA TOUR will be the home of championship golf going forward.
As you might expect to hear, the game will also feature many of the world’s most famous courses, giving fans the option to play against and as some of the biggest names in professional golf. And this is a long-term deal too, with EA and PGA Tour combining with a view to moving forward.
The game will be built using the EA Frostbite engine, and the teams behind it promise leveraging next-gen technology, and dropping in stunning fidelity, breathtaking immersive environments, and approachable, dynamic gameplay.
“EA SPORTS and the PGA TOUR have created some of the most memorable golf video game experiences together, and we couldn’t be more excited to expand our sports portfolio with a new golf title on next-gen hardware,” said Cam Weber, EVP & GM, EA SPORTS. “Our team of passionate golf fans is meticulously recreating the world’s top courses such as Pebble Beach, and we can’t wait to give fans the opportunity to compete on some of the most iconic PGA TOUR courses and win the FedExCup.”
“We’ve partnered with EA SPORTS to bring immersive golf video game experiences to fans of all ages for years,” said Len Brown, PGA TOUR Chief Legal Officer and Executive Vice President Licensing and Merchandising. “We are thrilled to continue working with EA SPORTS on its golf franchise to authentically represent the PGA TOUR for the next generation. The newest game will give golf fans another way to experience their favorite sport, or to discover their passion for it.”
More EA SPORTS PGA TOUR news will be revealed in the coming weeks, whilst a launch date will be announced in the coming months. With EA on the FIFA, Madden, NFL, NHL and UFC train, it’s great to see them return to the world of golf. We’re expecting release on Xbox Series X|S and PS5.
But what do you think? Will they be able to shoot under par with EA SPORTS PGA TOUR on next-gen? Let us know in the comments.
