Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time has finally crash landed on the Switch today and you are all probably wondering how it performs. Thankfully, the tech enthusiasts at Digital Foundry have gone hands on with the final code and have come away with positive impressions. Obviously it can’t compete with the also newly released Series S|X and Playstation 5 versions, but if you fancy the Switch version it’s a decent port of the base PS4 and Xbox One versions . The game runs at 720p when docked but can drop and 540p when played in handheld mode and it plays at 30fps as expected.
- 720p docked (sometimes less)
- 540p portable.
The Switch version is just as good as other comparable conversions: the expected cuts are made but it still looks the part and runs consistently, even if the frame-rate is halved. Crucially, the game is a lot of fun to play and while not quite an iconic return for the franchise, I still feel it’s well worth checking out whether you’re gaming on the latest and greatest or on Nintendo’s unique console hybrid.
