First Look: Superman’s New Creative Team Makes Their Debut

Comic News

A lot has taken place in 2021 and we’ve endured it all without Superman.

That’s not to say the Man of Steel hasn’t been around. He’s been on the small screen in Superman & Lois and on the comic racks in DC Future State, but Superman, the flagship title starring DC’s first true superhero has been nowhere to be seen…until now. If you’re a fan, you’re likely elated. And if you haven’t been reading Superman’s monthly comic (either of his two monthly comics, for that matter), it’s a fantastic time to start. Writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson (The Last God) is taking the reins of both Superman and Action Comics this month, kicking them off with a two-part story with artist Phil Hester that will set the stage for what’s to come.

“The Golden Age” features both Kal-El and his son, Jonathan Kent, in a story that looks at the legacy of one of the world’s greatest heroes and asks a difficult question—as Superman ages, could we lose him once again? Facing an otherworldly threat powerful enough to truly hurt, or even kill, the Man of Steel, Jon must sort through his feelings towards Superman, both as a beloved and needed superhero and as his dad as they face a battle that will change both of their lives forever.

It all kicks off on Tuesday with the release of Superman #29, but if you’re eager for a taste of what Johnson and Hester have in store for the Man of Steel and his fans, check out this exclusive first look!

Superman #29 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Phil Hester, Eric Gapstur and Hi-Fi is available in print and as a digital comic on Tuesday, March 9.
