Media holding company and esports tournament organiser WePlay Esports has entered into a partnership with the fighting-game website DashFight.
The deal will see both parties collaboratively host the Ultimate Weekend Brawl (UWB), a new recurring Mortal Kombat 11 event that pits players against one another for a prize.
Eugene Shepelev, Lead Esports Manager at WePlay Esports spoke on the announcement in a release: “We decided to bring the format of late-night show matches, popular in the sports world, to the FGC. I’m sure that both the players and the broader community will enjoy this type of event while waiting for WePlay Ultimate Fighting League Season 1 to start.”
The Ultimate Weekend Brawl #1 is set to take place on March 6th and will consist of three stages, starting with two best-of-five Undercard stages, featuring a $300 (~ £215) reward for the winner. The Main stage will be a final, best-of-seven matchup with the victor claiming $500 (~ £359).
Alice Averina, Product Marketing Manager at DashFight added: “Our goal is to bring the community together and watch the legends duking it out in a competitive, yet friendly environment. I’m looking forward to seeing how this event will grow over time.”
WePlay Esports and DashFight have already collaborated in the past, with both entities hosting the WePlay Dragon temple. Following up on the success of the competition, WePlay announced the launch of the WePlay Ultimate Fighting League (WUFL) in partnership with world cruiserweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk.
Esports Insider says: Based on the success of WePlay’s ‘test’ fighting game tournament last year, it’s not a surprise to see the organiser come up with a follow-up series with the same partner. Over the last 12 months, WePlay has grown fond of hosting fighting game tournaments, which has only further developed the FGC esports sector.
